Congratulations 25ers!

Today, I happily attended Cohort 25's pinning ceremony at Green Gables Estate.  It was lovely to see familiar friendly faces and being present to congratulate them on their achievements!  One of my favorite moments was when a fellow student gave a speech and quoted one of my favorites from Conan O'Brien -- "If you work really hard and are kind, amazing things will happen."  I truly believe that.  &&& onto the pictures!

DIY Halloween Costumes

This year mister b. and I decided to dress up as one of my favorite Disney characters, Peter Pan {said in an English accent} and Mr. Smee.  We decided to forego buying Halloween costumes because Mr. Smee is not a common one to find.  A bonus to our brilliant plan, we were going to be comfortable!

Mister B.'s costume pieces {red beanie, striped polo, and shorts} were all found at H&M, minus his glasses and flip flops.  His white sideburns were cotton-balls and they were held together onto his beanie with bobby pins.  &&& my costume...I purchased the fleece fabric at Walmart for a whopping $2.45 and followed these instructions to construct the shirt.  The green pants was also purchased at H&M, the hat was gifted from my sister, the belt borrowed from said sister, and the booties were ones I already had.  I decided to forego Peter's sword since Mr. Smee is harmless.

During our little photo-op this afternoon, our neighbors drove by and gave us a thumbs up, so we're definitely more than pleased with the results.  Our pockets are pretty happy too with my costume costing less than $25 and mister b.'s less than $45.  Another bonus, we both get to wear most of the pieces again, minus my fleece top and hat.

&&& of course, the munchkin got dressed up and joined in the fun, as her favorite Disney princess, Ariel.  Mister B. and I already have our costumes planned for next year and we're definitely going the DIY route again!  I hope you all  have/had a fun and festive Halloween day/weekend.  Remember, you're never too old to dress up whether you suit up or slut up {it's the one day where it's appropriate or so they say}.

6 Month Countdown or Breakdown?

My classmates from my original cohort will be completing their last Nursing class this week with their pinning ceremony to look forward to the following week.  As I sit here with no weekly journal or assignments to complete, I realize I have six months left of Nursing school.  Should I countdown or have a breakdown?

Two weeks ago during clinical, a LVN, also a student at a different college was quizzing my friend and I on Med Surg material because she had just taken her final for that class.  I, on the other hand took that class back in the beginning of the year, and I wasn't able to answer her questions.  My friend and I looked at each other with our "WTF" expressions.  I thought to myself, "I should know this stuff!"  Then on my drive home that afternoon, I rationalized all this.  Awful?  No!  Maybe.  Anyway...I am attending an accelerated 22 month program.  Material is studied to pass weekly quizzes, midterms, finals, and ATI.  After that, you get two days if you're lucky to unwind and then onto a new class it is.  Absorbing ALL the material throughout the entire 22 months is rare, except to the exceptional few who have photographic memories.  Will I be ready for the NCLEX after school?  Probably not.  But I will study my hardest to pass it when that time comes.

&&& something I've learned from some of the nurses I've worked with during clinicals is that the knowledge of heart rhythms, pathophysiologies, and everything else will come with time.  After all, a nurse's education doesn't stop after graduation.

Celebrate

This past Sunday, mister b. and I celebrated out first year anniversary.  I had no idea where we were going for dinner, so I decided to casually dress up in a classic black and off-white top and bottom, paired with black and gold accents--casual, comfortable, and chic.  Twas the perfect outfit to stuff your face with a delish dinner, extraordinary desserts, and drinks!
